Dr. Brad Bass is a 30-year veteran at Environment and Climate Change Canada as well as a Status Professor at the University of Toronto. Dr. Bass worked with a small team of economists to estimate the cost of not taking action to reduce algal blooms on the Great Lakes, led the development of green roof research in Canada, which influenced the City of Toronto’s Green Roof By-Law and led the development of the agent-based software known as COBWEB. COBWEB is widely used to simulate many systems including wetlands, land use dynamics, forest dynamics, brain cancers and ecological complexity.
Dr. Bass served on a team that was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for Climate Change.
In 2012, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities awarded Dr. Bass the Lifetime Achievement Award for Green Infrastructure Research. Dr. Bass’ most recent work on the cost of algal blooms was published in July 2019.
