Professor Subodh Sharma is a faculty member of the Environmental Science & Engineering Department at Kathmandu University in Nepal. Professor Sharma has a PhD degree from the University of Agriculture, Forestry and Renewable Natural Resources (BOKU), Vienna, Austria, in the year 1996. His dissertation title was “Biological Assessment of Water Quality in the Rivers of Nepal”. He was a Post Doctoral Senior Fulbright Research Scholar at Towson University, Maryland, USA, in 2009-2010 where he studied Macroinvertebrates as Indicators of Climate Change in the High Altitude Lakes of the Himalaya. He is a visiting professor at the Centre for Hydro and Renewable Energy, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.

 Professor Sharma has 32 years of teaching, research, and administrative experience at the university level. He has been actively involved in the supervision of PhD and Postdoctoral students in the field of climate-resilient water, sanitation, and hygiene including greenhouse gas emissions. He has 64 national-level publications, 73 International publications, and has authored 3 books. His research interests include WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), and biological assessment of water quality using macroinvertebrates.

 Professor Sharma is highly committed to community services. Professor Sharma served many rural communities in Nepal to provide safe drinking water. His major community activities in safe drinking water include Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions and public health, monitoring and outreach of pesticides in public sources, and rainwater harvesting and safe drinking water in rural communities.

 Professor Sharma has served the Kathmandu University as Head of the Department, Director, Dean, and Registrar. He has supervised many master’s and Ph.D. students. He has hosted many scientific conferences and workshops. He has received prestigious awards such as Madan Bhandari National Award (2019), National been awarded Education Award (2013), Education Excellence Contribution Award (2008), TWAS (Third World Academy of Science and Technology) Award (2002), Mahendra Bidhya Bhusan Ka (1996), and Mahendra Bidhya Bhusan Kha (1989). These awards were received from the King, the President, the Prime Minister, or the Ministers of Nepal.
