Urban Biocycles, an Ellen MacArthur Foundation scoping paper

On March 28, 2017 the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF) issued the groundbreaking Urban Biocycles scoping paper as an introduction to a Circular Economy approach for urban nutrient cycles. The well-researched paper addresses the valuable nutrients within current organic waste streams and how urban environments disrupt nature’s perfected nutrient cycles.

Ei Founder Holly Elmore is listed in the Urban Biocycles paper credits as an Expert Input and Case Study Contributor. The ZWA Blog article, A Circular Economy Approach to Urban Nutrient Cycles, introduces the EMF scoping paper and features Ei-related work over the years.

Lambda Alpha International – Atlanta Chapter

Ei Founder Holly Elmore was inducted into Lambda Alpha International (LAI), the Honorary Society for the Advancement of Land Economics. Holly’s election to the LAI Atlanta Chapter membership was in recognition of a successful career implementing sustainable best practices in the foodservice industry. The IMPACT Blog article, Lambda Alpha International Atlanta Chapter: growing membership, influence & impact, introduces fellow inductees and provides a LAI history and overview.

2011 Going Green Airport Award

Michael Cheyne, Director of Asset Management & Sustainability for the Atlanta Airport, accepted the 2011 Going Green Airports Award in October. The award was presented at the 4th Annual Airports Going Green Conferencein Chicago, Illinois and honors the Sustainable Food Court Initiative Pilot Project at Hartsfield –Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The prestigious award recognizes the value of the Sustainable Food Court Initiative Pilot Project as well as outstanding leadership in pursuit of sustainability within the aviation industry. The mission of the Sustainable Food Court Initiative, an Ei Task Force in partnership with the National Restaurant Association ConServe Program, is to bring zero waste initiatives to food courts and develop industry sustainable best practices for back-of-the-house and front-of-the-house operations.

SSO Superhero Designation in Harvest Power’s Program Launch

Harvest Power, a developer of renewable energy and compost facilities for next-generation organics recycling, introduced the Harvest Power Superheroes program to encourage source separated organics (SSO) programs in communities throughout North America.

The Harvest program both recognizes exceptional individuals who have driven successful SSO initiatives in their communities and provides valuable templates, tips and instructional materials to help other leaders launch organics recycling projects in their communities.

Ei Founder Holly Elmore was honored as a SSO Superhero in the program launch and featured in the press release to national media.

2009 GRACE Innovator of the Year Award

As Founder & Executive Director of the Green Foodservice Alliance, Holly Elmore was honored at the 2009 GRACE Gala with the Innovator of the Year Award GRACE Awards are the Georgia Restaurant Association Crystal of Excellence Awards.

The Innovator of the Year is selected by industry peers and is a visionary leader who demonstrates exemplary talent and promise for the future in the foodservice industry. At the time the Zero Waste Zones were a Green Foodservice Alliance and a major contributor to Holly’s prestigious award.

Restaurant Forum, the Official Magazine of the GRA, features full-page articles on each GRACE Award category winners.

Strengthening OSWER Partnership Award

09/30/09

The U.S. EPA presented the Zero Waste Zone Atlanta Team with the Strengthening OSWER Partnership Award at a joint EPA and U.S. Composting Council Conference luncheon. OSWER stands for The Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response.

The award was for demonstrating extraordinary cooperation, collaboration and support in strengthening a public/private partnership that is diverting a tremendous amount of recoverable products from landfills and supports the city of Atlanta in developing marketing edge for future convention business.

Plaques and certifications were presented at the luncheon. Among those receiving the awards was Ei Founder Holly Elmore, then Green Foodservice Alliance Founder & Executive Director
